Pride and Prejudice at the Cat Café, Fallout, Fragile, My Latest Covers, and a Survey
One Writer's Journey: A newsletter about reading, writing, and creativity by Sue Bradford Edwards
I’m Reading . . .
In this case it is what I’m reading next. Way back when, I commented in front of my friend Kris that I don’t read romances. “You read my Cat Café books, don’t you?” Of course, I read my friend’s books! What she said next shocked me. “Those are romances.”
No! How is it possible? They have plots! The characters don’t drive me nuts. How can these be romances? But Kris insists that they aren’t just novels but honest to goodness romances. Let’s humor her, shall we?
This series is about a group of entrepreneurs who are equally devoted to family, friends, and their community. They are also working to find forever homes for cats of all shapes and sizes. If you love sweet romances, give these books a try. You’re a cat lover? Each book in this series is full of cats and cat lovers.
And apparently romance.
I’m Watching . . .
My husband and I have been watching Fallout on Amazon Prime. It is a post-apocalyptic series based on the game series of the same name. They’ve done a great job fleshing out the characters.
I’m going to admit that I was completely confused during episode 1. The preview that I had seen was a compilation from numerous new programs. I spent all of episode 1 looking for a favorite actress who is in something else altogether.
Each group in this world has a different personality. While I don’t strictly speaking LIKE the vault dwellers, they are endlessly entertaining in a naïve 1950s wholesome kind of way. I had to laugh when we got to see Lucy’s kitchen. My new kettle fits right in!
I’m Listening to . . .
I’m currently listening to Fragile by Lisa Unger. When her son’s girlfriend vanishes, Maggie is positive he is innocent. Why can’t his father, head detective for the local police department, accept this? Throughout the current investigation, the memory of another missing girl swirls around the town. What Maggie doesn’t realize is that numerous people in her life were connected to the earlier disappearance.
I’m three-quarters of the way through the book and I’m curious to see how Unger ties things up. I wish I could remember how I found out about this particular book because it is book one in a four book series. Should I read on?
My Writing . . .
In the last newsletter I didn’t have any new covers to share. This time, I have four that have dropped in the last three days. I really like the designs for Making Podcasts and Making Music! Which cover is your favorite?
All of these and one more will be out in August. When you do work-for-hire for educational publishers, the books tend to come out fairly quickly.
Something More . . .
I’m curious. I know how I read - print books and audio books rule. I work on screen, so I don’t want to read on screen which eliminates ebooks. But what about you? You can comment or vote in the survey below.
If you have any comments or questions or things that you would like to see me include in the newsletter, please let me know. And, if you’ve enjoyed it, please share it with your friends.
